Dinner at The Avery

I’m a sucker for thoughtful design and rich, intentional experiences, and The Avery checks every box for me. I also love that similar to our household, the owners are a husband and wife team with incredible talents that have learned to successfully blend.

The vibe? It’s the kind of place where you could settle in for a glass of wine and completely lose track of time, as well as the city you are in. The decor isn’t just “pretty”—it’s a masterclass in design. I can see Ashley’s personal style everywhere… She is always polished but never fussy. As one of the owners, her unique style creates an environment that is luxurious and welcoming. From the textures of the upholstery to the perfectly imperfect vintage touches, everything feels hand-picked, like it was waiting just for this space. And if you know the story of the bar in the back, you know that there is history as deep as there is design. (Disclaimer, the Brunswick Bar is in Tiner’s Alley, not up front in the Avery)

I am also a lover of French food and salads that make you want to weep… Salads are so underdone in most places… not here. I think about the bitter greens days ahead of our reservations, and the Crispy Baby Artichokes and Beet Napoleon… not to be missed. I guess that is to be expected when you have a very humble Michelin Star Chef at the helm. As much as Ashley crushed the ambiance, Co-Owner Chef Cal has curated a menu that rivals a true European Brasserie. (believe me, I know firsthand) Saying that I am thrilled to have somewhere serving perfectly prepared Sole Meunière, expertly seasoned Steak Tartar (don’t come at me unless you have tried it) and also a steak and short rib duo that makes Nick happy is an understatement. Don’t tell anyone but our kids even did their New Years Eve pre fix with us and loved it. 🤫

If you are in need of a stellar date night coupled with a swanky hotel stay… Might I recommend that you do both dinner and Brunch in the same building as they have a boutique hotel upstairs that is a hidden gem in the city. My thoughts would not be complete without mentioning Tiner’s Alley… more of a gastropub menu, but fun for the night cap scene or mid day drinks and snacks!

We recently did a spotlight on The Avery, and if you want to know more about the history, it’s a short read! I will say that it’s not just a dining experience; it’s a destination—a little slice of the big city right here in Downtown Boise and we are so glad to have them!
